Meet Nikki Laycy

I’m Nikki Laycy, author, spiritual medium, Reiki Master Teacher and spiritual teacher, and the founder of Age of Awakening. I’m also the author of Out of the Shadows: From Despair to Self-Acceptance and Love and Black Sheep Matters: Book of Life Lessons.

My own journey has taught me what it feels like to lose yourself while searching for acceptance, healing and a sense of belonging. I have experienced difficult chapters in my life, but I have also discovered that those experiences do not have to define who we become.

Through healing, self-reflection and spiritual development, I gradually learned to trust myself again, recognise my own worth and create a life with greater meaning and purpose. That journey has shaped not only the person I am today, but also the way I support and teach others.

For more than 30 years, I have explored spirituality, intuition, energy healing and personal development. Today, through Age of Awakening, I share that experience through online spiritual development courses, mediumship training, psychic development, Reiki courses, tarot and spiritual guidance.

As an evidential spiritual medium, I also offer mediumship readings designed to bring comfort, reassurance and evidence of continuing connection with loved ones who have passed. As a Reiki Master Teacher, I help students explore energy healing and develop their knowledge from Reiki Level 1 through to Reiki Master Teacher training.

My books are another part of that journey. Out of the Shadows shares my personal path through adversity, emotional pain, healing and self-acceptance, while Black Sheep Matters explores the life lessons we often learn when we stop trying to fit in and begin embracing who we truly are.

At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: personal and spiritual growth is not about becoming someone new; it is about reconnecting with who you truly are.

Writing Out of the Shadows

Writing has become one of the most meaningful ways I connect with others. My books are inspired by real experiences, real emotions and the life lessons that can emerge from some of our most difficult moments. I write openly about healing, self-worth, resilience and finding the courage to become yourself again.

My first book, Out of the Shadows: From Despair to Self-Acceptance and Love, is a deeply personal account of my journey through adversity, emotional abuse, difficult relationships, self-doubt and the struggle to feel worthy of love and acceptance. For many years, I carried experiences that affected the way I saw myself and the choices I made. Writing the book meant revisiting some painful chapters, but it also allowed me to recognise just how far I had come.

Out of the Shadows is not simply a story about what happened to me. At its heart, it is a book about survival, healing and personal transformation. It explores what can happen when we begin to recognise unhealthy patterns, establish boundaries, rebuild our confidence and understand that our past does not have to determine our future.

I wanted to write the kind of book I once needed myself — something that could quietly say to another person, “You are not alone, you are worthy, and your story is not over.”

From Out of the Shadows to Black Sheep Matters

My writing journey continues with Black Sheep Matters: Book of Life Lessons, a very different book with the same underlying message of self-acceptance.

Being the “black sheep” can sometimes mean feeling different, misunderstood or as though you don’t quite belong. But I have learned that being different is not something we need to apologise for or hide. Sometimes the qualities that make us stand apart are the very qualities that eventually help us discover our strength, individuality and purpose.

Black Sheep Matters brings together inspirational life lessons about self-love, boundaries, relationships, healing, courage, happiness and protecting your peace. There is humour in it too, because personal growth doesn’t always have to be serious. Sometimes we need permission to laugh, learn from what happened and keep moving forward.

Writing, Healing and Spiritual Growth

My work as an author is closely connected to everything else I do. Alongside writing, I am an Evidential Medium, Reiki Master Teacher and Spiritual Teacher, with more than 30 years of experience exploring spirituality, intuition, energy and personal development.

Through Age of Awakening, I support people at many different stages of their journey through spiritual development courses, mediumship and psychic development training, Reiki, readings and teaching.

Although books, courses and mediumship may appear very different, for me they share the same purpose: helping people understand themselves more deeply, recognise their own strength and move forward with greater confidence and hope.

My own experiences have shown me that healing is rarely about forgetting the past. It is about reaching a point where the past no longer controls the person you are becoming.

Why I Write

I don’t write because I have all the answers. I write because I understand what it is like to question yourself, lose confidence and wonder whether life can ever feel different.

My hope is that readers don’t simply remember my name or the title of one of my books. I hope they remember how the words made them feel.

If one chapter helps someone recognise an unhealthy pattern, set a boundary, rediscover their self-worth or simply find the strength to keep going, then sharing my story has been worthwhile.
