Square Peg, Round Hole!

Have you ever just felt like no matter what you do or say, you will never fit in with anyone? Nobody understands you and you certainly do not understand them either. You’ve grown up feeling totally alone your whole life and because of this you distance yourself even more from everyone. Well, that was me for almost 40 years! I get you, I feel your pain, trust me.

If you’re like me, you question your mind daily. You even think you must be mad or even a little crazy as no matter how many times you try to fit in, you just can’t do it. I call this the ‘Square Peg, Round Hole’. I was always looking for ways to improve myself; to try and fit in with the people around me just so they would like me for me. However, I noticed that the harder I tried, the worse I would feel. Almost like I had ‘Imposter Syndrome’. I was lying to myself, pretending to be something that I wasn’t. Yes, people would be nice with me, be polite and even friendly at times. But I never felt right inside, I was empty and lonely for much of my life.

The one thing that life has taught me, is to just be my ‘True, Authentic Self’, no matter who I meet. Trying to fit in just makes you miserable. Forget trying to be liked by everyone, the right people will gravitate towards you in time. You need to be patient; your tribe will find you eventually.

Feeling Different

You need to learn to embrace the fact that you do not fit in, you are your own special person. Strong, powerful and beautiful in your own right. You were not born to blend in with others, you were born to stand out and be a leader, a warrior and a light for other lost souls. Being different is one of the hardest paths I’ve ever had to walk down, it’s certainly one of the loneliest that’s for sure. But trust me when I tell you that my life got better when I stopped trying to fit in and just embraced who I really am. I know I will never be everyone’s cup of tea, and that is just fine with me. I too don’t like everyone that I meet either, it’s the spice of life. We are all different in our own unique way, forget about everyone else and just concentrate on being you in all your glory.

I remember being about 6 years old, stood in my mum’s kitchen and clearly thinking ‘I want to go home’, I was upset because I couldn’t go home but the strange thing was, technically I was already home. But the house I grew up in didn’t feel like home, however I had no idea where home was either. It was the strangest feeling I can ever remember as a child. I felt lost and very confused, and these feelings pretty much stayed with me my entire life. I believe that my soul was craving to go back to where I came from before I was born into this earth. I have learnt to live my life with the knowledge that one day I will return home to my soul family. This has kept me sane when I’ve felt lost and alone. I know in my heart that this life is only temporary and that I am only here to help others on their path before I too will go back to where I truly belong.

So, enjoy your differences, stand out and be proud. You where not born to fit in so go and live your best life and forget trying to fit in with everyone else just to be accepted. They are not worthy of your beautiful, kind heart and soul if they do not get you or understand where you are coming from. Put yourself first, shine your light with pride. The right people will find you and will love you just the way you are.

Embracing Your Uniqueness

In a world that often celebrates conformity, feeling different can be a challenging experience. Whether it’s due to your interests, beliefs, appearance, or personality, standing out from the crowd can evoke a complex mix of emotions. However, embracing your uniqueness can lead to profound personal growth and positive outcomes. In this blog, we’ll explore the feelings associated with being different, the challenges it can bring, and the incredible benefits of standing out.

The Emotional Landscape of Feeling Different

Feeling different can trigger a range of emotions, from loneliness and isolation to empowerment and pride. Here are some common feelings that may arise:

Loneliness and Isolation

When you feel different from those around you, it’s natural to experience feelings of loneliness. You may find it difficult to connect with others who share your interests or values, leading to a sense of isolation. This can be particularly pronounced in social situations where you feel like an outsider.

Self-Doubt and Insecurity

Being different can sometimes lead to self-doubt. You may question your worth or wonder if you should change to fit in. This insecurity can be exacerbated by societal pressures and the desire for acceptance, making it challenging to embrace your true self.

Empowerment and Pride

On the flip side, feeling different can also evoke a sense of empowerment. Embracing your uniqueness can lead to a strong sense of identity and self-acceptance. When you recognise the value of your individuality, you may feel proud of who you are and more confident in expressing yourself.

The Positive Outcomes of Being Different

While feeling different can be daunting, it also opens the door to numerous positive outcomes. Here are some of the benefits of embracing your uniqueness:

Enhanced Creativity

Being different often means thinking outside the box. This unique perspective can fuel creativity and innovation. When you embrace your individuality, you’re more likely to explore unconventional ideas and solutions, leading to personal and professional growth.

Stronger Authentic Connections

When you embrace your true self, you attract like-minded individuals who appreciate you for who you are. This can lead to deeper, more meaningful relationships built on authenticity and mutual respect. Surrounding yourself with people who celebrate your uniqueness can create a supportive community that helps with personal growth.

Increased Resilience

Navigating the challenges of feeling different can build resilience. Overcoming obstacles and embracing your individuality can strengthen your character and enhance your ability to cope with adversity. This resilience can serve you well in various aspects of life, from personal relationships to professional endeavours.

Inspiration for Others

By embracing your uniqueness, you can inspire others to do the same. Your courage to stand out can encourage those around you to celebrate their individuality, creating a ripple effect of self-acceptance and empowerment. You may become a role model for others who feel different, showing them that it’s okay to be themselves.

Personal Growth and Self-Discovery

Feeling different often prompts introspection and self-discovery. As you navigate your unique path, you’ll learn more about your values, passions, and strengths. This journey of self-exploration can lead to greater self-awareness and a more fulfilling life.

Embracing Your Uniqueness

If you find yourself feeling different, remember that your uniqueness is a gift. Here are some tips for embracing your individuality:

Celebrate Your Differences – Acknowledge what makes you unique and celebrate those qualities. Write down your strengths and passions and remind yourself of their value.

Seek Supportive Communities – Surround yourself with people who appreciate and celebrate diversity. Look for groups or communities that align with your interests and values.

Practice Self-Compassion – Be kind to yourself as you navigate the challenges of feeling different. Recognise that it’s okay to feel vulnerable and that your feelings are valid.

Share Your Story – Consider sharing your experiences with others. Whether through writing, art, or conversation, expressing your journey can help you connect with others and inspire them to embrace their uniqueness.

Feeling different can be a complex and sometimes challenging experience, but it also holds the potential for incredible growth and empowerment. By embracing your uniqueness, you can unlock creativity, build authentic connections, and inspire others to celebrate their individuality. Remember, the world needs diverse voices and perspectives, and your differences are what make you truly special. Embrace them and let your light shine.
